Vote DiBasilio for Sheriff 2018

Personal Profile

Rick moved to Calaveras County in 1978 when his father-in-law bought the Dorrington Store. Before entering law enforcement in 2002, he worked in logging, automotive repair and trucking industries.  He joined the Ebbetts Pass Fire Department as a volunteer in 1979 and worked in the Hazardous Waste clean-up industry.  He sought out contracts, bid, managed budgets, secured certifications, supervised and completed numerous multi-million dollar job sites, working closely with the customer and Cal OSHA.

Being active within the community has always been important to Rick. For many years he assisted with fundraisers for the Calaveras Future Farmers of America, Calaveras High School Boosters and the Sexual Assault Response Team. Rick is a member of the Calaveras Chamber of Commerce and has completed their Leadership Calaveras Program that is designed to encourage the development of community leaders by identifying local issues.

Rick was a member of the West Calaveras Rotary Club and is currently a member and the Sheriff Office Representative (SOR) of The Friends of the Calaveras Sheriff’s Office a 501c3 nonprofit founded by citizens to publically and financially support the Calaveras Co. Sheriffs Office with purchases not fully funded by the county. Rick works with neighborhood watch groups, assisting in getting their groups started and giving continued support. Rick has been a softball and volleyball coach for teams within this community and was a foster parent from 2004 to 2006 helping 8 children to whom 3 stayed with him until their 18th birthday. One of the juveniles, now 22, applied for a corrections and deputy position, because of Rick’s influence.

Rick was instrumental in the Every 15 Minutes program at Calaveras High School and heavily involved in the Every 15 Minutes program at Bret Harte High School during his tenure as School Resource Officer.  Additionally, Rick assisted in facilitating the high schools Regional Occupation Program (ROP) classes to integrate students from Calaveras High School to Bret Harte High School for Fire Science classes and BHHS students to CHS for Police Science classes.

Rick values being very active within the community consistantly and helping in various ways to give direction and hope to our youth. As you can see, he has assisted in fundraising and offered support for various organizations with a variety of causes. Part of Rick’s success in the Sheriff’s Office and in the community is because he places a high value on personal integrity and represents the Sheriff’s Office and the community in an ethical and respectable manner. Throughout his life he has demonstrated deep involvement in Calaveras's civic activities, community programs, and our youth. As a longtime resident, he has an even greater level of devotion to Calaveras County.
